Writing is thinking, a kind of collective thinking. Writing doesn’t transmit ideas: it creates ideas, in both the writer and the reader. The writing act is a provocation to both those who write the words and to those who read them. The written words are like an electric current that lights up the brain of both the writer and the reader, and what happens in either brain is not identical or often all that similar. The only thing that is the same is the provocation to think.
